It started with the purchase of Problogger’s 31 Days to Build a Better Blog, and with this nagging feeling that I really wanted a place to share my thoughts about my favorite TV shows, movies, celebrity gossip, and goings-on online.

And so Getting My Blog On has been reborn. I don’t know how often I’m going to post, but I hope if you like what you read, you’ll come back.  Subscribe to the feed, place an Entrecard ad, tweet any posts you like.

People, I love Star Trek. I loved the original series when I watched it in reruns, on video, and on DVD. I loved The Next Generation, and I’ll even admit to watching Deep Space Nine. I loved Voyager, Enterprise not so much but we watched most of it.

The Star Trek Movie Launch is going to be HUGE. In fact, I’ve been reading that a lot of theaters are already sold out of tickets for opening day! Online sites like Fandango still have tickets if you absolutely must go opening day; Fandango’s Star Trek Movie site has showtimes and theater info.

If you like sending away for free samples, the blog you need to be reading is Bargain Briana. Not only does she scour the web for the best free samples, but she has a Linky set up for others to add their freebie finds and link to their giveaways, and there are HUNDREDS of them.

I’m also a big fan of Thrifty Jinxy, she lists freebies, contests and giveaways.

You might think oh sure, they say free but I’ll get spammed. I’ve been sending away for Wal-Mart’s free samples for months and have never gotten anything I didn’t ask for.

This article on Six Revisions shows 40 examples of sites using a vintage or retro look for their design, and I’m sure there are many more.

It’s hard to find a defining look for a site. If you’re like me and either too cheap to pay for a custom theme or get bored with your theme every six months and want to change it, you’re limited by what free themes are out there. Unless you have design skills and can make something yourself.

Yeah, I can’t do that. I can barely make an Entrecard badge using Picnik.

What’s more important- design? or Content?  Or does the ideal site have a combination of both? Discuss.

In the three years since I’ve been blogging and spending time online, I’ve come across a lot of sites that ask you to read emails or take surveys in exchange for “points”. What they usually don’t tell you is that you need a ridiculous number of points to be able to cash in.

Today I came across A.W. Surveys and discovered that they reward actual CASH, and all you have to do is look at a website and then write a sentence or two giving your opinion of the site. Seriously, that is it!

You take a $6.00 Welcome Survey After Free Registration!, then for me, I had six offers at $4.00 each. Each offer consisted of looking at two websites and then writing a short evaluation of my general impressions of the sites. The sites were links to other survey and freebie sites, but I didn’t have register for them or even click anything.
